Stokes + Summertime

Had a great time with Tash, Jeremy & Dakota Stokes this weekend.
Lil Dakota turns 1 soon so we celebrated by taking pictures of that gorgeous face of his. Grandma & Grandpa were a huge help behind the scenes singing, bouncing and making all sorts of faces to get him to smile for me.

A Still Small Voice

There are moments where a thought will pass through your mind and you allow it to be just that, a passing thought.
And then there are moments where you to tune in and realize that thought might me bigger than you and ought to be acted on.

In June a client of mine was diagnosed with a rare type of breast cancer.
She had a 12 week old baby girl Brooke, a 5 year old son Brady and husband Brett. This hit close to home for me because I myself was pregnant and couldn't image the agony of facing cancer with a newborn.
July 1st I woke up with my baby next to me thinking about Terri and what her day must be like and just as I was about to get up I thought "she is on my heart for a reason".
I emailed her with all I really have to offer- a photo shoot and you will read her message back to me below.
Sometime we hear a still small voice and when we allow it to be an action and not a thought, thats when God comes in.

"Krystle - tears are streaming down my face right now. I have had a yearning in my heart to get pictures...but we are not only in a health crisis but huge financial crisis as well. I didn't even pray about this because it was so far down my list right now...yet God knew my heart...why am I surprised at how much he cares for me!!!!! I also wanted to do pictures before I lost my hair...the doctors tell me it is necessary...I would love more then anything to have a family photo shoot, it would mean the world!!!!I can't wait to tell Brett!!!!! God is good!

Annabelle is in da house!

This is our daughter Annabelle Rose Sommers and these were her first studio shots @1week old.
I was so excited to use my new handmade bed prop for this shoot!
My sister came over earlier and thought it was actually her real bed and was a little confused about how she would stay in it at night- funny.
She did great considering we did it during her nap time and she spent most of it without a diaper on.

Anatomy of a baby room

I had such a fun time putting the nursery together I thought I'd share some pictures with you.
Like probably all first time Mamas I was pretty excited to get a room all ready for our bun in the oven.
9 months is a long time to wait and a project like this is great way to feel like you are actually doing something to get yourself ready.
First step-
Paint.
This decision definitely took the longest and tried my husband's patience the most.
I ran to Walmart the day I decided gray was the color and of course I didnt buy a sample, I bought a whole gallon.
Once he cut the whole room in I called my interior designer friend over for an emergency team meeting.
Was the gray to purple? Answer- Yes.
The thing about paint colors is there are many many many hues to each color.
I was shocked how hard it was to find the right gray! Home Depot was the ticket and the paint was sorted.
Onto the fun stuff-
The crib was the first purchase ordered from Pottery Barn Kids.
Putting this together was the most exciting part.
My husband assembled it and I loved watching him do his first "daddy job."
I teared up a little when he was finished but ended up in sobs when we put the sheets on. CRAZY I know.
The Argington organic bedding was bought used online from Amazon and came in pristine condition. Im NOT paying $300 for sheets, thats insane.
The "Annabelle" sign and lanterns were shower gifts from www.Landofnod.com & the teddy bear is my 26 year old Puffalump.

The changer was also bought online from JCPenny.
They had the best prices for quality.

Kite was homemade gift from a friend.

Suitcases were shower gifts from www.Landofnod.com and rose pillow was from T.J.MAXX.

The table, lamp and elephant are from Target, shoes were a gift and the letter A and boxes are from Goodwill.

Flags were also homemade gift from a friend.

Ship in a bottle was a great score at Goodwill and driftwood sign was another homemade gift from a friend.

Now all I need is a baby! Come on out Annabelle :)

She is the type person you want in your corner and was a major help in so many ways with all the work we did in the community with my recent job at Bayside Church.
Her beautiful babies Ellie & Olivia did great at our summer evening shoot out at a friend's barn with the chicks.

Joy comes in the morning

My husband and I had a little studio session this morning.
I dragged him away from his guitar long enough to get these shots of baby and I.
At 36 weeks week we are right around the corner from meeting our little miracle baby, Annabelle Rose Sommers.
The thought of holding in my arms and not my tummy seems almost incomprehensible.
There was a very sad time in our lives when we lost a little baby and I cant explain with words how many pieces my heart broke into.
We found out April 25th 2010 we were pregnant with our first child.
We called her our Little Peanut and on May 18th we told the WHOLE world she was coming.
On June 7th my sister flew in from England for an ultrasound.
I couldnt wait to show my little sis my most prized possession but when they couldnt find a heartbeat anymore my own heart stopped dead in its tracks.
She carried me out of the room that day thus beginning the journey that leads me here.
I learned a lot about God and faith and hope during that time and am grateful for our angel waiting in Heaven.
My husband and I have an incredible group of people that loved and carried us during that season and are now rejoicing with us and cheering on baby Annabelle today.
I have learned without a doubt that Psalm 30:5 is true-
"Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning."
October 10th 2010 I found out I was pregnant with Annabelle and for my 25th birthday on December 26th we shared our great news with the world again.
Joy does come in the morning.

We shot @the Marina and the girls, Skylar & Sydney did great.
I loved the girls little painted toes and Skylar's romper!

The Gibson's are a super sweet family that I met a few years ago at a summer camp both our churches did.
Baby Jada is not longer a little baby and Reef is now on the scene.

A prayer for Adrian

I had the honor of photographing the Littlejohn family last week.
We had an amazing shoot with mama Ivette, dad Anthony and 1 year old baby Adrian full of smiles, laughs and kisses & then I cried all the way home.
Baby Adrian is in the middle of radiation for a rare form of brain cancer.
Its hard to think about all that little precious baby has been through after testing, surgeries, chemo and long hospital stays but I cant imagine better parents for the job.
How do they cope?
"One day at a time with the faith that God will heal him."
I walked away that day reminded that nothing is certain tomorrow but we can choose to cherish what we have today and its easy to see how much they cherish Adrian.

Tayden and Tanner Christner were in the studio this time last year in bunny costumes that they weren't too happy about (even though they looked sooo cute in them) & this year Mom upgraded them to polo shirts and jeans.
The boys are walking now, so grandma came along to help wrangle them but we all decided it was the Goldfish and Cherrios that really did the trick (we hid them in the Easter basket hehe).

Darlin and Rick have them some beautiful babies- Makenze, Lil Darlin & Carter.
Keeping them all in the studio was a work out because lil Darlin wanted to be in my lap, Makenze wanted to be taking the photos and Carter wanted to be anywhere else. M&M's saved the day :)
They are such a fun bunch with great personalities.

Meet the Robinsons

The Robinsons shoot was my first after getting back from my trip to England and after a few weeks of not shooting its always so great to get back out and do what I love.
Capturing moments of people who love each other.
5 year old Jonathan was amazing with his new baby sister Abigail.
It is so sweet watching siblings be protective of each other.
They are a beautiful family and we had surprisingly great weather during the tornado week.

Shooting Mae & Dru this week was such a beautiful time.
The weather has been amazing here in Florida and we were able to enjoy the sunshine, breeze and afternoon in mom Melinda's back yard amongst the orange trees.
The girls were angels and I think they enjoyed it as much as us.

Baby Grayson was an angel.

Loved the varieties, color and combinations she had.
Equally impressive was her hair.
I even asked her, "are you wearing that "Bump It" thing?" and was shocked to find out that her do was just hairspray and pins.

I had such a fun time shooting the Warren family @Lido.
This was a first for me.
They are on vacation from the Ukraine and don't speak much English, so their sister came and translated for me.
It was really no problem at all as what I do doesn't require too much talking.
As beautiful as all of their names were I could in no way pronounce them let alone attempt to butcher them further by trying to figure out the spelling. Just know there were really cool.
The balloon was a cute touch and the waves were a gorgeous shade of teal.

(ps this was the fist time in my pregnancy I have been to the beach and I really enjoyed taking our Annabelle to my favorite place in the whole world)

The Mayer cousins brought the holidays to me this week :)
Caleb, Jace, Dylan & Baby Linlee were adorable in their wagon "sleigh" with their matching formal and pajama outfits.
We (the adults) were quite a scene, singing as loud as we could to get the boys to look at us.
Dylan was not feeling it but he was a champ and at least sat in front of the camera for me.
Jenny (Jace's Mom) had more props than Target! She made my whole living room look like Christmas!
Too bad she had to take it all home ;(

Owen & Lilly are precious!
I shot with Danny & AnnMarie last week and had such a blast hearing all about their amazing story.
Both children came into the Joneses home through the foster care system and have since been adopted.
It was such a blessing to see these two beautiful children thriving in a family that not only loves them but decided do something about the children of America who are homeless.
This was such an inspiration to me.

Can a baby get any cuter?
Aiden's smile is adorable and those eyes are HUGE.
Im really happy with these becasue I had a vision for how I wanted the shoot to look and it played out perfectly.
We had quite the time getting him adjusted to his elf beanie and furry blanket but he seemed to get very cozy in the end.
Matt is also a drummer so we got a shot of Aiden inside the kit ;)
I had to add the monkey picture because his room is 100% monkey themed.

Outnumbered

Tammy Campbell is outnumbered with 4 boys in the house but after spending some time with Mike, Garrett, Brendan & Michael I can tell that its not a bad thing.
I was shocked how well all 3 of the children got along!
Brendan the 2nd oldest was very creative and always one step ahead of me for where we should take the next picture, Michael the youngest just wanted to be up a tree for all his pictures and Garrett the typical oldest was go with the flow.
Fun times!

Ok seriously- I LOVE these guys!
I met Guy & Nicky a year so ago @Bayside and not only love them because they are English (huge plus) but also have so much fun with them.
They are so happy, joyful & full of energy- just the kind of people you should surround yourself with.
Tom, Chloe & Oliver are also super awesome.
I cant help myself with little Oliver, those freckles make me pinch his checks every time!

I loved Terah's choice for the family outfits.
The matching converse were a great little touch.
Again as all boys are, Tavin was obsessed with the rocks and needed one in each hand :)
Half way through the shoot he did a face plant into them and got a big knot on his poor little head (that I edited out).
Tavin was a trooper though and finished the shoot with sister Ashlan (who was all smiles) like a champ.

Studio shoot with the Millers!
I met Charity at my first job @Yoders Restaurant 10 years ago and it was really fun to meet her beautiful family this weekend.
Mason, Travis & Sophie were awesome and the boys completely blew me away.
Happy, smiley and great with their baby sister there were no tears nor tantrums and not one bribe was needed.
This is very rare as its a lot of pressure for kids to "perform" for photos.

Moriah, Maddie & Garrett shot downtown with me and I LOVED their outfits.
I'm a sucker for huge flowers & tutus while Garrett wore super tendy shoes and a great tie shirt.
Props to Kim cuz I love dress up :)
In general, I think the kids do also and it shows in their photos.
I would describe these photos as full of color, texture and joy.

Kevin, Colleen, London, Reagan & Baby Kensey came down from Ocala to shoot. I had tons of fun running around the property with London (9) & Reagan (8) who are at such a great ages. They were ready to climb, jump, rope swing and strike a pose at any moment. We had beautiful weather and a great location.

Rebel Family

I joke with Elise that she and Shawn are rebels because every time we shoot we get in trouble!
We got chased out of the last location and this time we got told "its illegal to stand on the train tracks" and asked to move.
Either way, we always manage to get great shots and have a great time.
Ashley & Owen enjoyed the train but seemed to like the rocks on the track way more :)

Jackson & Nicholas are 1!

The boys are 1 and we celebrated by trying to get them to sit still.
These two are the fastest kids I have ever shot!
Good thing we had mom & auntie in studio to catch them for me.
Crazy fact: Mom Jamie was 5 months pregnant when she found out it was twins. They did not detect a second child in any of the ultrasounds until that point. Can you image?!
Fun times and lovely family.

Always Room For One More

Since 2002 Randy & Dede Bates have been foster parents and in that time have cared for over 50 children.
Until just recently they thought that season of their life was over, but when you have hearts like the Bates, there is always room for one (or two) more.
Kyle & Cam are staying with them at the moment and it was amazing to spend time with this incredible family who believe no child should be without a safe and loving home.

Time with this family is always such a fairytale.
They have the best imaginations and within 1 hour went from "sleeping" to being puppies, to sword fighting with twigs and much more. With them the fun never stops.
Rachael, Samantha & Eli are precious and I have celebrated many a birthday with them.

BIG surprise!

When Benji & Melinda went for their ultrasound they knew it was going to change their lives, but they got a BIG surprise!
Identical twin girls!
Benji almost fainted at the news and Melinda thought it was a joke that the techs played on all first time parents.
They are both surfers, so @the beach in bathing suits couldn't fit them better.

"Cookin a Midget" with the Daileys

Im sorry, I hope that title doesn't offend anyone but I couldn't help it!
The first time I really hung out with Stephanie I asked her where her belli was because her stomach was just soooo little!
Her response had me laughing for weeks.
She said "I don't know either! I asked the doc if I was cooking a midget in there!"
Long story short Baby Bentley is perfectly healthy and a very normal size.
With contractions started he should be here any day now :)

World meet baby Luca!
I met Michael & Tracey @the Clark wedding rehearsal this summer & its always so amazing for me to see a baby bump turn into a real mini person. Sounds silly, but anyone who has seen a birth knows what a miracle it truly is.
Luca did great and was such a tropper with all the shots, positions and props we put him through.
Great to hang with the Tucci's & their little miracle!

Nate Price

I know Nate from church, he's one of the leaders at youth group.
Good kid & great athlete.
No joke -when Nate pulled up for his senior pictures I peered into the car and said "Hi & are you his friend?" to the girl in the drivers seat (because most of the time kids bring their friends).
She started laughing really hard and said "No! Im his Mom!"
Ha ha!
That was a serious shock because to me she really looked his age.
Some people really luck out in the genetics department!

This session is funny because we shot it at Bayside Community Church where Mat works.
When they had asked where to shoot this location came to mind because there are a few really cool spots there (like the couch in the bathroom :) but its also perfect because Bayside is actually where they met & fell in love.
Angie joked before we got started that they are both terrible at taking photos, "Matt has the Chandler from Friends smile going on and Im a bad squinter" but as you can see below they both look great.
Congratz to the Moores! Cant wait to meet Baby Aiden!

This is the 2nd Hershberger wedding I have shot and its such a joy to work with this family. I did older brother Beji's wedding and am now getting ready to do their maternity photos.
It was my first wedding @The Crosley and I was soooooo excited because its the last one on my "I have to shoot a wedding here" venue list in the area.
As you can see its gorgeous and so was Jordan and Amanda's special day.
I freaked when I saw her because the antique veil, couture dress and diamond blinged out bouquet were a photographers creative dream.
After cake is began to pour and the wedding party danced in the rain for hours until midnight when they all sailed off on a boat into the Bay.

The Twins are 1!

Brian & Tiffany Christner have had an incredible year.
With all that they have been through- it is such a miracle for me to be able to shoot Tayden & Tanner for their 1st birthdays.
Below is their story, which is such an inspiration!
Tiffany-
"We were absolutely thrilled to find out on April Fools Day, that I was pregnant with twins! A few weeks later, we learned it was going to be twin boys. I was only 4 1/2 months pregnant when they discovered a problem with "baby b" (Tanner). It was suggested that we could dispose of "baby b" and keep "baby a" however, that was not an option for us. The next 3 1/2 months we had to have faith that God was going to pull us through this. We heard more bad news, but prayed and believed that God had a plan. September 16th 2009, 2 months before their due date, the boys entered the world at 6:00pm & 6:01pm. Tayden weighed 3 lbs. 12 oz. & Tanner was 2 lbs. 5 oz. They stayed in the NICU for 6 weeks, but came home showing much progression. Now, a year later, we are celebrating the miracles God has done in our boys' lives and thank him for their health. Sweet 16!

Ashley is turning Sweet 16 and little sister Emily gets to come along for the ride.
The Carls sisters and I explored Parrish on Wednesday and I couldn't believe the cute train station out there.
They were troopers about getting on the tracks even though it was 100 degrees from the Florida heat and really dirty from who knows how many years of use.
I had an nostalgic moment when they were walking down the track together laughing that took me back 10 years ago to that age with my sister Harriet. We are similar in ages and I just cant believe how fast time goes by.
Theres really nothing in life like the bond between sisters.

The Millers Ellie (3) & Reagan (15 months) could not be any cuter but add tool skirts, hair bows and striped leggings and you have some stinkin cute kiddies. On top of that I really loved the location- red barn, swings and grassy fields.
My favorite shot of the evening is where Elli is leading Reagan by the hand and she is looking back at me -the expression on her face is just precious.

~Daniel, Lisa, Berny, Gen, Daniel Jr & Lizzi~
I first met the Judge family when I lead a team to Peru last summer and was immediately impressed with with the youngest two of this beautiful crew Lizzi and Daniel.
They were great kids who never once complained as we pulled lice out from hundreds of children's heads, gave out parasite pills, dug wells and build homes from nothing in the jungle on their summer break. Soon after I was again delightfully shocked when I met their mother who is one hundred miles an hour, out helping the world one board meeting, fundraiser, volleyball game and charity event at a time. Dad Daniel also has a heart of gold that has obviously trickled down to all of his children. Needless to say I really love this family and also kinda consider them part of mine ;)

With her cute little accent and that long curly hair I thought the title was perfect for Brittany's shoot.
She & I got a whole 20 minutes before the rain hit (so there will be a part 2 session) but Im still really happy with what we got in that short time.
Brittany is really beautiful inside and out and I know she has an amazing life ahead of her.

I met Charles Young a few years ago when I heard about all that he was doing in the community.
His style is random acts of kindness and reaching out to those in need by any means.
He and and his wife Kristen have huge hearts & after being missionaries in Africa they moved to Bradenton to work @ Bayside community Church where Josh and I attended.
Charles hired me to be his assistant last year and it has been a crazy ride ever since.
I have since traveled all over the world and been apart of more than I could have ever imagined.
Coupled with photography it is definitely a dream come true!
Not going to lie- its hard sometimes when you work for someone who flies by the seat of their pants, jump first and thinks later & works at 100 miles an hour, but my job is NEVER boring.
Love them & their new baby- Jackson!

You just said- I thank God that I met you in Russian.

I met Teliee & Sveka 5 years ago when they attended a Russian church and have recently reconnected with them.
It is amazing how people can come in and out of your life, but this time with these folks I hope its forever.
They are both so much fun and Svetka is one good cook.
Tony and Pierce are serious troopers and have hung with us through many a late night dinner.
